In Loving Memory of Darra
Although we didn’t have the privilege of knowing Darra personally, the immense love and grief shared by Justin, Amanda, and the family have touched our hearts deeply. It’s evident that Darra was cherished beyond words.
To Justin, Amanda, and the entire family, we extend our sincerest condolences during this difficult time. It’s been an honor to stand by your side and support you through this part of your journey.
Here are some heartfelt words from the family:
A tribute to the most sacred soul I have ever had the privilege of knowing.
Darra wasn’t just a horse. She was my spirit mate. She held me up in my darkest hours. I didn’t have to be the Alpha, because we rode as one. We rode together and shared each others company in the woodshop, where she would always hang out.
The bond that we shared was unbreakable.
She could take on the most anxious and scared kid, and walk with them so gently, reassuring them all the way. She could also get up a good gallop when I would ride with her.
Darra understood people, better than they understood themselves.
She had a way, that she could drain away the anxiety and depression, and make you feel like it would all be OK. Even for just a few moments.
She accidentally threw my daughter when Sahwen first started riding. Poor Darra was devastated that Sahwen was hurt (she was fine, she just got a shock) and just wanted to reassure her. 30 minutes later, she was carefully and gracefully taking Sahwen around the paddock. It was then, that their bond was forged.
Darra went on to help more veterans and kids than I could count. You could see the care and concern in her eyes, when she was around people that were struggling with mental health.
Darra was family. There is nothing we wouldn’t do for her, because she had done so much, for so many.
It’s going to be tough to get through, but knowing she is always with me, and I know that she will get me through this.
