What does horse cremation cost?
Honestly: it depends on your horse and your property, and any website that gives you one flat number is guessing. Below is exactly what moves the figure, so that when you call you already know what you are being quoted on.
Alby takes every equine call himself and gives you a firm price on that call — no forms, no callbacks, no obligation. Ring 0493 814 474 at any hour.
The six things that change the price
Your horse's weight
A 300kg pony and a 700kg warmblood are not the same job. Weight sets the chamber time, the fuel used and the equipment needed for the lift, and it is the single biggest factor in what an individual equine cremation costs.
Where the horse is, and what the access is like
A firm gravel driveway to a level paddock is straightforward. A wet back paddock, a steep gully, a stable block with a narrow gate or a horse that has passed in an awkward position takes longer and sometimes takes extra equipment.
Distance from our facility
We collect across NSW and South East Queensland from Coffs Harbour. Travel time is real cost, so a property near the Mid North Coast and a property out past Tamworth are quoted differently.
How much of the ashes you would like returned
A full return of a horse's ashes is a substantial volume and a substantially bigger job than a symbolic portion in a keepsake. Both are genuine choices, and the difference in price is significant.
The memorial you choose
From a simple enviro container through to a handcrafted timber memorial, engraved plaque or ash-set jewellery. Nothing here is compulsory and nothing is upsold at the gate.
Timing
We work seven days. Same-day and after-hours collection is available and is priced accordingly, but you will always be told the figure before we move.
What is included in every quote
- Strictly individual cremation — never grouped with another animal
- On-property collection with our own equipment and our own people
- A numbered SafeHarbour tag fitted at collection and tracked to return
- A signed Certificate of Individual Cremation
- Screening of the collection area so other horses and family are not distressed
- Personal return of the ashes wherever the distance allows
Questions owners ask us
- Why isn't the horse cremation price published on this page?
- Because a published number would be wrong for most owners. Weight, property access, travel distance and how much of the ashes you want returned change the figure substantially, and quoting a single price would either overcharge some families or mislead others. Alby gives you an exact figure on the phone, with no obligation and no pressure.
- How do I get an exact price for my horse?
- Call Alby on 0493 814 474. He will ask your horse's approximate weight, where the property is, what the access is like and whether you would like ashes returned, and then give you a firm figure on that call. If you are ringing on behalf of a vet clinic, stud or agistment property, say so and he will handle it directly with you.
- Is horse cremation cheaper than burial?
- It depends entirely on your property. On-property burial can be cheaper where it is lawful and where you already have machinery on site, but NSW burial is governed by local council rules, water table depth and setbacks from bores and waterways, and hiring an excavator is not free. We will tell you honestly if burial suits your situation better.
- Do you cremate horses individually?
- Yes. Every equine cremation we perform is strictly individual, with a single numbered SafeHarbour tag fitted at collection that stays with your horse through transport, cremation and return, and a signed Certificate of Individual Cremation with the ashes.
- How long does equine cremation take?
- Collection is usually within 24 hours and often the same day. Ashes are generally ready within 5–7 business days and are returned to you personally wherever the distance allows.
- Does this cover other large animals?
- Yes — ponies, donkeys, cattle, alpacas and other large companions. We have carried steers, working horses, broodmares, campaigners and paddock companions, and the process and the level of care are identical.
- Can my vet organise it?
- Yes, and many do. We coordinate directly with equine veterinary clinics, studs, riding schools and agistment managers so you are not organising logistics while you are grieving.
