Pet cremation, done the way you would do it yourself

Harbourside is a family-run crematorium, not a facility. Every companion in our care is cremated individually, tracked by a single numbered SafeHarbour tag, and brought home to you personally with a signed certificate, an ink paw print and a clipping of fur.

We collect from homes and veterinary clinics across coastal and northern NSW, the Hunter, Greater Sydney, the Northern Rivers and South East Queensland — day, night, weekends and holidays. Alby answers the phone himself.

What every farewell includes

  • One companion in the chamber at a time — never grouped, never partitioned
  • A numbered SafeHarbour tag travels with them from collection to return
  • A signed Certificate of Individual Cremation with every farewell
  • An ink paw print and a clipping of fur included, not upsold
  • Ashes returned to you hand to hand wherever the distance allows
  • Alby answers the phone himself, at any hour

How pet cremation works with us

1. You call, any hour

No call centre and no hold music. Tell us where your companion is — at home, at your vet, or somewhere unexpected — and we take it from there. If you would rather wait until morning, we will tell you exactly how to keep them comfortable until we arrive.

2. We collect in person

Our own team, our own unmarked vehicle, a clean blanket rather than a crate. Your companion is tagged with a single numbered SafeHarbour tag at the moment of collection.

3. Individual cremation

Your companion is the only one in the chamber. Nothing about that is negotiable, and SafeHarbour Verification records each step so you can see it rather than take our word for it.

4. Home again

Ashes are usually ready within 5–7 business days, returned personally with the certificate, paw print and fur keepsake. If you would like us to hold them until you feel ready, we will, at no charge.

Questions families ask us

What is pet cremation?
Pet cremation is the dignified reduction of a companion animal's body to ashes in a purpose-built chamber. Individual cremation means your pet is cremated alone and their own ashes are returned to you. Communal cremation means several pets are cremated together and no ashes come home. Harbourside only performs individual cremation.
Is there a pet crematorium near me?
Harbourside is based on the Mid North Coast of NSW at Coffs Harbour and collects from homes and veterinary clinics across northern and coastal NSW, the Hunter, Greater Sydney, the Northern Rivers and South East Queensland. There is no travel surcharge inside our companion service area.
How long does pet cremation take?
Collection is usually the same day or the next morning. Ashes are typically ready within 5–7 business days of collection and are returned to you personally wherever the distance allows, rather than couriered.
How much does pet cremation cost?
Every price is published rather than quoted on the phone. Individual cremation with ashes returned starts at $430 and rises with weight and the memorial you choose; removal only, with no ashes returned, is $250 for all weights. See the prices page for the full table.
Can my vet arrange the cremation for me?
Yes. Most clinics can book us on your behalf through our veterinary portal, and you still choose your own package and keepsakes directly with us. Nothing is decided for you.
Do you cremate cats, rabbits, birds and small pets as well as dogs?
Yes — dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, birds, rats, ferrets and reptiles, all individually. Horses and large animals are handled by our separate equine service, which uses purpose-built equipment.
How do I know the ashes are really my pet's?
SafeHarbour Verification. A single numbered stainless tag is fitted at collection and stays with your companion through transport, cremation and return, and each stage is recorded and timestamped so you can check it yourself.

  • They dropped everything to be here the day I lost my boy.

I could not recommend Alby and Rachael highly enough to take care of your beloved fur family. The empathy and support they provide is second to none. They made an already difficult process so reassuring. And I trusted them to take the best of care of my boy.…

  • Treated with such kindness from the very first call.

Alby and the Harbourside team were so kind and compassionate when we lost our beloved Lydian. From the first phone call we felt looked after — nothing was rushed, nothing was outsourced, and every detail was handled with such care. Having him returned home to…

  • They understood she was family, not ‘just a bird’.

Our cockatiel Pippa was with us for 18 years — through three house moves, two kids growing up, and every morning coffee on the verandah. When she passed I was nervous about ringing around because some places really do treat small pets like an afterthought.…
