The Horse Cremation Process — Explained Step By Step
Immediate answer
Horse cremation with Harbourside is always individual — one horse, one chamber, one set of ashes returned to you. The full process takes 3–4 weeks from collection to the return of your horse's ashes, and every step is verified under our SafeHarbour chain-of-care system.
Phone Alby — 0493 814 474Every horse handled by Harbourside is cared for under SafeHarbour Verification — one numbered tag, one chamber, one companion at a time.
Is horse cremation always individual?
With Harbourside, yes — individual means individual. Your horse is the only one in the chamber. There is no batching, no co-mingling, and you receive a signed Certificate of Guaranteed Individual Cremation.
Some providers offer communal cremation; we do not, for horses. If you do not want ashes returned, professional removal is the appropriate pathway.
What are the steps in a horse cremation?
The process is the same for every horse, no matter the breed or size, up to draught horses.
- Collection — purpose-built equipment, SafeHarbour numbered tag applied on site.
- Transport — dedicated vehicle, no co-mingling.
- Receiving — two-step reconciliation against your booking record.
- Cremation — one horse, one chamber, tag retained through the process.
- Processing — ashes are gently transferred and verified against the tag.
- Return — ashes presented in the urn you have chosen, with the certificate.
How long does it take?
Usually 3–4 weeks from collection to ashes being ready for return. Artisan or Heirloom timber urns add a small additional crafting window which we explain at booking.
We keep you updated throughout — there is no need to chase.
