Our chain-of-care promise

SafeHarbour Verification

One numbered tag. One chamber. One companion at a time. From the moment we collect your beloved friend until the moment they are home again with you — every step is identified, reconciled and recorded.

We built SafeHarbour because families deserve to know — without asking — that the companion in their hands is theirs.

The process

Six verified steps. No shortcuts.

The same principles apply to a budgie, a beagle, a stockhorse or a warmblood. Scale changes — care does not.

  1. 01

    Numbered tag at collection

From the moment we collect your companion — whether from a home, a clinic, a paddock or a stable — they are tagged with a unique numbered identifier. That tag stays with them, on their body, through every step until they return to you.

  2. 02

    Care during transport

Your companion travels in a dedicated, climate-considered vehicle. They are never grouped, stacked or co-mingled with others. For horses and large animals, we use purpose-built equipment so handling stays dignified at every stage.

  3. 03

    Receiving and reconciliation

On arrival at our facility, identification is reconciled against your booking record. Two checks are made by two pairs of eyes — paperwork, tag, photograph (if you've asked for one) — before they are placed into care.

  4. 04

    One chamber, one companion

An individual cremation means individual. Your companion is the only one in the chamber. No batching, no co-mingling, no shortcuts. The chamber is prepared and the tag travels with them through the process.

  5. 05

    Verified return

After processing, ashes are gently transferred into the urn you've chosen. The same numbered tag is reconciled one final time before sealing. Every return is checked, signed and recorded.

  6. 06

    Home to you

We return your companion to you personally — by hand-delivery where we can, by tracked courier where distance requires. You are kept informed at every stage. There are no surprises and no waiting in silence.

SafeHarbour FAQs

What families ask us most

What does SafeHarbour Verification actually mean?
It's our promise that your companion stays identified, individually cared for and never co-mingled — from collection through to return. One numbered tag, one chamber, one companion at a time. Verified at every handover, in writing.
Does SafeHarbour apply to horses and large animals as well as pets?
Yes. The chain-of-care principle is identical for both. Equine cremations use purpose-built equipment and a dedicated large-animal chamber, but the same identification, reconciliation and individual-cremation rules apply.
How can I be sure the ashes I receive are my own companion's?
Because their numbered tag is reconciled at collection, at receiving, at the chamber and at sealing — by two people, in writing. We can also provide a photograph at receiving and a signed certificate of individual cremation on request.
Is co-mingled or communal cremation ever used at Harbourside?
No. Every cremation we perform is individual. We do not offer communal or shared cremation. If a family ever needs another option, we will refer them honestly to a provider who does — we won't pretend.
Who handles my companion through the process?
Alby Koster (background in the funeral industry) and our small trained team. The same people who answer your call are the people who care for your companion. There is no third-party handler in the chain.
How quickly can SafeHarbour collection happen?
For pets across our Northern NSW region we are usually able to collect within a few hours. For horses and large animals across NSW and SE Queensland, collection is scheduled based on distance, urgency and weather — but we move quickly and keep you informed every step of the way.
