After-Hours & Emergency Horse Removal

Immediate answer

Phone Alby on 0493 814 474 — the phone is answered by a person at any hour, including nights, weekends and public holidays. We coordinate removal of a deceased horse or large animal across NSW and South East Queensland, usually same-day or first thing the following morning, and there is no after-hours surcharge. You do not need to move your horse or arrange machinery yourself.

Every horse handled by Harbourside is cared for under SafeHarbour Verification — one numbered tag, one chamber, one companion at a time.

What to do in the first hour

There is very little you need to do physically, and nothing that must be done in the next few minutes. The priorities are the safety of the people present and the other horses.

  1. Move other horses to a separate paddock or yard if it is safe to do so — herd mates will often stand over a fallen horse.
  2. Note where the horse is lying and whether a truck or tractor can reach that point. Gate widths, soft ground after rain and steep access are the three things we will ask about.
  3. If a vet is attending or has attended, ask them to leave a note of the time and cause where you can find it.
  4. Phone Alby on 0493 814 474 with the property address, the horse's approximate weight and a description of vehicle access.
  5. Cover the horse with a rug or tarp if you would rather others on the property not see them while you wait.

How quickly can you get here?

Same-day collection is achievable across most of our service footprint, and we will give you an honest window on the phone rather than an optimistic one. Distance, daylight, and whether heavy machinery is needed all affect the timing.

If we cannot reach you until morning, we will say so plainly and tell you exactly how to manage overnight. A deceased horse left in a shaded paddock overnight in cool weather is entirely manageable.

Is there an after-hours or weekend surcharge?

No. Nights, weekends and public holidays are charged at the same rate as a Tuesday morning. Loss does not keep business hours, and we do not think a family should pay more for the time of day their horse died.

What if access is difficult?

Steep ground, bogged paddocks, arenas with narrow gates and horses that have died in a stable or float are all routine for us. We carry the equipment to manage recovery without damaging your property, and we will talk through the approach with you before anything moves.

If we genuinely cannot access the location, we will tell you before we leave, not after we arrive and invoice you.

  • They dropped everything to be here the day I lost my boy.

I could not recommend Alby and Rachael highly enough to take care of your beloved fur family. The empathy and support they provide is second to none. They made an already difficult process so reassuring. And I trusted them to take the best of care of my boy.…

  • Treated with such kindness from the very first call.

Alby and the Harbourside team were so kind and compassionate when we lost our beloved Lydian. From the first phone call we felt looked after — nothing was rushed, nothing was outsourced, and every detail was handled with such care. Having him returned home to…

  • They understood she was family, not ‘just a bird’.

Our cockatiel Pippa was with us for 18 years — through three house moves, two kids growing up, and every morning coffee on the verandah. When she passed I was nervous about ringing around because some places really do treat small pets like an afterthought.…
