Choosing A Horse Cremation Provider — Questions Worth Asking
Immediate answer
Ask three things above all else: is my horse alone in the chamber, how is their identity tracked from paddock to ashes, and is the price I have been given the whole price. Providers who answer those plainly are usually the ones worth booking. Harbourside answers all three in writing, and Alby attends personally.

The ten questions
You are making this decision on the worst day of your year, often in a single phone call. These are the questions that separate providers.
- Is my horse cremated alone, or with other animals? Words like private and partitioned are used loosely across the industry — ask for a plain yes or no.
- How is my horse identified from collection through to the return of the ashes? A numbered physical tag is the only answer that means anything.
- Who actually attends the collection — an employee, a subcontractor, or the owner of the business?
- Is the quote all-inclusive? Ask specifically about travel, after-hours, weekend, difficult-access and weight-band charges.
- Do you subcontract the removal, the cremation, or both?
- How long until the ashes come back, and are they delivered in person or couriered?
- Do I receive a signed certificate naming my horse?
- What keepsakes are included as standard, and what costs extra?
- Can you hold the ashes if I am not ready, and is that charged?
- What happens if you cannot access the paddock when you arrive?
Warning signs
A reluctance to answer the identification question directly is the biggest one. So is a quote that arrives without a total, a business that will not tell you who is attending, and pricing that changes once weight or access is mentioned.
Courier-returned ashes are not necessarily a red flag over long distances, but you should be told before you book, not after.
