How long does pet cremation take?
The cremation itself typically takes between one and three hours depending on size, plus a cooling period before the ashes can be collected and prepared.
From your point of view, the number that matters is the return: ashes are usually back with you within 5–7 business days of collection.
The timeline, step by step
- Collection — same day in most cases, or a time that suits you.
- Arrival and identification — a numbered SafeHarbour tag is recorded against your companion.
- Cremation — one to three hours in the chamber, alone, followed by a cooling period.
- Preparation — ashes are collected, prepared, and placed in the urn or keepsake you chose.
- Keepsakes and certificate — the ink paw print, fur clipping and signed Certificate of Individual Cremation are assembled.
- Return — usually within 5–7 business days of collection, delivered to you personally wherever distance allows.
Why not faster?
We could rush it. We do not, because the parts that take time are the parts that protect you: verifying identity at each stage, cooling properly, and preparing keepsakes carefully rather than in a hurry.

If you need it sooner, or later
If there is a service, a family gathering or a flight you are working around, tell us and we will do our best to work to that date.
Equally, if you are not ready to have them home yet, we will hold the ashes for as long as you need at no charge. That happens more often than people expect, and there is nothing unusual about it.
