Long — full description

Harbourside Pet & Equine Cremations is a family-owned and operated crematorium based on the New South Wales Mid North Coast. It performs individual cremation only — one animal in the chamber at a time — for companion animals from Port Macquarie to Ballina and west to Nana Glen, and for horses and large animals from Brisbane and the Gold Coast through the Northern Rivers, Hunter, Greater Sydney, Illawarra and Southern Highlands, and west to Tamworth. Every animal is fitted with a numbered stainless SafeHarbour tag at the point of collection, with each stage of the process logged to a private tracking page for the family. Collection is available seven days a week including after hours, with no after-hours, weekend or public-holiday surcharge. Ashes are usually returned within 5–7 business days, hand-delivered wherever distance allows, with a signed Certificate of Individual Cremation. Referring practices and organisations include NSW Mounted Police, Racing NSW and REC Equine Specialists. Harbourside holds 132 Google reviews at 5.0 stars.

Stories we can speak to on the record

What families are legally allowed to do with a pet's body

Council rules on home burial, water tables and setbacks differ street by street, and most families are told nothing at the clinic. We can speak plainly about what applies in a given LGA.

Background reading

The horse-owner problem nobody plans for

Australia has very few operators able to cremate a horse individually, so owners frequently face on-property burial they cannot legally or practically carry out. Alby speaks to this from the paddock, not from theory.

Background reading

Why 'individual cremation' is not a protected term

There is no enforced Australian standard behind the phrase, which is why identification and custody records matter more than marketing language.

Background reading

Disaster, flood and bushfire animal loss on the Mid North Coast

Regional emergencies leave families and property owners with animals to deal with and no obvious help. We can talk about what actually happens in those weeks.

Background reading

We will not put a grieving family in front of a camera to get coverage. Case studies are only ever offered with the family's explicit written permission, and they can withdraw it at any point.

  • They dropped everything to be here the day I lost my boy.

I could not recommend Alby and Rachael highly enough to take care of your beloved fur family. The empathy and support they provide is second to none. They made an already difficult process so reassuring. And I trusted them to take the best of care of my boy.…

  • Treated with such kindness from the very first call.

Alby and the Harbourside team were so kind and compassionate when we lost our beloved Lydian. From the first phone call we felt looked after — nothing was rushed, nothing was outsourced, and every detail was handled with such care. Having him returned home to…

  • They understood she was family, not ‘just a bird’.

Our cockatiel Pippa was with us for 18 years — through three house moves, two kids growing up, and every morning coffee on the verandah. When she passed I was nervous about ringing around because some places really do treat small pets like an afterthought.…
