How long does pet cremation take, and when will the ashes come home?

A realistic timeline from the moment you call to the moment your companion is back with you — including what happens on each day.

In short

The cremation itself takes roughly one to three hours depending on your pet's size. Ashes are usually back with you within 5 to 7 days of collection, and we return them personally wherever the distance allows.

In the first hours, time feels strange. Knowing what happens next — and roughly when — helps more than most people expect.

The timeline

  • The call: Alby answers personally, at any hour, and talks through options with no pressure.
  • Collection: usually the same day, often within a few hours. Overnight is fine if you'd rather wait until morning.
  • Identification: a single numbered SafeHarbour tag is applied before your companion leaves.
  • Cremation: one companion, one chamber — typically one to three hours.
  • Cooling and preparation: ashes are cooled, prepared and placed in your chosen memorial.
  • Return: hand-delivered where distance allows, or collected from us whenever you feel ready.

If you need more time

There is no expiry on our care. If you're not ready to have the ashes home, we hold them safely for as long as you need, at no charge.

Questions families often ask

Can it be done faster?

Often yes. Tell us if there's a service, a scattering or a family member flying in, and we'll work to that date.

How long can my pet stay at home before collection?

Several hours comfortably in a cool room, and overnight if the room is cool. We'll guide you on the phone.

Will you post the ashes?

We hand-deliver wherever we can. Where distance makes that impossible we use secure tracked courier, and we tell you before it leaves.
