For Spike xox 💚
Those soft green eyes made you one handsome boy. But the first day we met you, you were a scruffy little thing with all your fur standing straight up, as if it had been glued into place. Dad took one look at you and said, "Spike"—and the name stuck. It suited you perfectly.
You loved chin rubs but never head kisses. You were happiest curled up in every patch of sunshine you could find. And you certainly kept us on our toes every time you raced out the door at 100 miles an hour, determined to head outside on your own terms and roll around in the grass.
You were the most stubborn cat I've ever known. From your morning claw to the face for breakfast—starting gentle, then getting stronger if we ignored you—to your constant need to inspect every plate to see what you could get your paws on.
One of the memories that will live rent-free in our minds forever is the day you launched yourself from the top of the kitchen cupboards straight into Grandad's cereal bowl, all for a mouthful of milk. It perfectly summed you up—fearless, determined, and completely unapologetic.
You also outlived every vet's prediction. What began as, "He only weeks left," turned into years. Every time we were told your time was almost up, you proved everyone wrong by bouncing back, time and time again. even yesterday you tried to act natural but we could see the change.
You were a stoic little soul who always wanted things your own way. Chasing the sunshine, sleeping, and eating were your favourite pastimes, preferably without too much effort on your part and no play involved. And if you wanted something, there was never any subtle hinting involved.
Watching you over your last few days was heartbreaking. We knew it was time, and together we made the hardest decision out of love. It was so hard not to hold you close, but we knew that wasn't who you were. Instead, we gave you what you always wanted—comfort, your own space, and the reassurance that we were nearby without overwhelming you.
With heavy but compassionate hearts, we said goodbye to you little man. Thank you for every ray of sunshine you gave us, every early morning wake-up call, every laugh, every headstrong adventure... and facial expression, and every precious memory you gave us.
You left this world with comfort and dignity.
You'll never be forgotten, Spike. You'll always be loved.
